In short, the move from 32-bit to 64-bit can mean many different things depending on whether we’re talking about hardware or software. These are just a few examples from Apple’s history alone, never mind the thousands of third party applications out there. It was a big deal when the A7 processor in the iPhone 5S made the leap to 64-bit. Apple made a push for 64-bit software with Snow Leopard ( sort of).
